The Cheetah

The cheetah is considered the fastest land animal on Earth. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than three seconds. However, cheetahs can maintain these incredible speeds only for short distances while chasing prey.

Other African animals are also remarkably fast. Lions can reach speeds of about 50 miles per hour when hunting. Their prey can be just as quick. For example, the springbok can run at speeds of up to 55 miles per hour, while the blue wildebeest has been recorded running at 50 miles per hour.
