Atlantic Manta Ray – Mobula yarae

The Atlantic manta ray (Mobula yarae) is currently confirmed only in the western Atlantic, one of the best places to observe manta rays. Because of its limited distribution, this newly described species may be more vulnerable than its relatives. Its discovery reminds us that even some of the ocean’s largest and most iconic animals can remain scientifically unknown for many years.
